Some of the following special events at the 2009 Annual Meeting require advance registration. Also, some of the events are in the Minneapolis Convention Center while others are in the Hilton Minneapolis, which is connected to the Convention Center by a walkway.
NSF Career Workshop (Registration closed)

Dr. Marc Ingber of NSF will lead a luncheon discussion on NSF's Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program. To attend this free workshop/lunch, you must be registered for the conference and be eligible for the NSF CAREER awards (click here for information on the CAREER Program and eligibility). Please sign up to participate in the CAREER Workshop here. Tickets will be included in your packet at the registration desk. Space is limited and registration will only be open until all available seats are filled.

Each expert will host an informal discussion over a complimentary lunch. Interested students should sign up for the luncheon at the conference registration desk. The event is free, but each table/topic is limited to 8 students on a first-come, first-served basis.

Town Hall Meeting--Recommendations on the Future of NASA's Low- and Micro-Gravity Research

Location: Minneapolis Convention Center, 200 EDFD attendees are invited to share their opinions and recommendations on the future of NASA's research program related to low- and micro-gravity fluid physics for the NRC Decadal Survey on Biological and Physical Sciences in Space (click here for survey details). All are invited to speak during the meeting, but anyone wishing to reserve a 5-minute slot to speak should submit a paragraph-long abstract prior to the Town Hall meeting to Richard M. Lueptow.

Geophysical Reception

Location: Hilton Minneapolis, Marquette IV and VCome to an open reception for alumni and friends of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (GFD) Program. The GFD program is an interdisciplinary summer program for graduate students that has been held since 1959 at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
