Education Workshops
The following Education Workshops will be held in the Hilton Minneapolis, which is connected to the Convention Center by a walkway.
The Physics of Flow: High School Teacher's Workshop
Contact: Karen Flack, United States Naval Academy
Time: Saturday, 21 November, 09:00 - 12:00 Noon
Location: Hilton Minneapolis, Marquette Room I - IIThis workshop will provide physics instructors with a broader depth of information on fluid mechanics and how to incorporate this into a high school physics curriculum. The focus will be on promoting hands on, small group laboratory activities that illuminate the physics of flow. The teachers will perform a laboratory exercise related to Bernoulli and leave the workshop with instructions so this lab can be used in a high school physics classroom. The use of flow visualization media as a supplement to physics instruction will be described and the participants will learn how to access the archives of flow visualization videos.
Fluids Education Lunch Workshop
Contact: Jean Hertzberg, University of Colorado
Time: Monday, 23 November, 12:50 - 13:50
Location: Hilton Minneapolis, Marquette Room I - II
Register for the Education Lunch Workshop here. This workshop will provide an opportunity for fluids educators to discuss topics of mutual interest, such as curricula comparisons, best practices, simple experiments and demos, use of concept questions, and more. Thematic 'Table Questions' will be provided to guide conversation, and 'Best of the Table' highlights will be harvested at the end of the lunch.
